222: Console History

This is, perhaps, the one piece I am most proud of right now. A very recent work of mine done only a few months ago, "222: A History of the Home Gaming Console" was a project I had done for my Creative Thinking class. The project was a quarter-long project where all of us had to choose a topic to design a creative concept map on, and I chose to do mine on the history of video game consoles.

After extensive research with the help of some great friends in an online community I frequent, as well as scourging Google for websites on the subject matter, I was able to compile a list of 222 consoles, dating all the way up to what was, at the time, the most recent: the PS3 40GB Console.

Compiling the list was one difficulty, but... illustration? Now that was something even more difficult.

44 of these were hand-vectored straight off of images found online. The remaining 178 were cut out of their original images in Photoshop and then live traced in Illustrator. The file actually got so massive that saving it sometimes took upwards of a couple of hours during the latter stages of the design process.

Be sure to view the image in full! The full view is still sized down from the original, which was basically designed as roughly a 30"x40" poster.... but, the full view is very large, so you can at least get a good look!

I also have made a guide for this piece, so that you can locate your favorite consoles on the poster, find a bit out about them, and see if it was illustrated by me or live traced by Illustrator!
